Alexander Romanov Sidelined for 6-8 Months Due to ACL Injury

New York Islanders’ defenseman Alexander Romanov has suffered a significant setback with a torn ACL in his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 months. The injury occurred during a game against the Rangers, where Romanov tangled with Mika Zibanejad and subsequently missed the last 12 minutes of the match. His surgery date is forthcoming.

This is not Romanov’s first major injury with the Islanders; a shoulder injury last season saw him out of play after taking a hit from Mikko Rantanen of the Dallas team. Romanov sat out the last five months of that season, making his time on ice rather limited since his contract signing.

Romanov, who signed an eight-year, $50 million deal with the Islanders in the summer of 2025, has played only 18 games over the past two seasons, including three this year.
