Braxton Berrios to Miss Rest of Season Due to Foot Surgery

New York Giants wide receiver Braxton Berrios announced on his Instagram that he will undergo season-ending surgery on his foot. Berrios disclosed this setback on his 31st birthday, expressing his disappointment by stating, ‘I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t miserable right now.’ This marks his third season in a row cut short by injury.

Berrios has been a crucial part of the Giants’ special teams, serving as their primary kickoff and punt returner. Despite participating in 23 offensive snaps this season, he has not recorded a reception and was averaging 2.5 yards per punt return. His injury occurred during a punt return in a recent game against the Arizona Cardinals.

In response to Berrios’ absence, the Giants are bringing up Charlie Jones to handle returns. Jones has already shown promise, gaining 29 yards on two punt returns and averaging 23 yards per kickoff return. Giants coach John Harbaugh expressed confidence in the team’s internal options to fill the gap left by Berrios. The team is also adding wide receiver Dontae Fleming to their practice squad and will rely on existing practice squad members for additional support.
